* The **To Do** module.
* The **direct link** provided in the email notification.

***

## Completing the Task <a href="#completing-the-task" id="completing-the-task"></a>

When a **Business Impact Analysis** (**BIA**) request is submitted, evaluate the business process, document its recovery requirements, and assess the potential impacts of a disruption.

{% step %}

### Assess Alternative Workarounds

Document the alternative workarounds and backup strategies that can temporarily support or replace the process during a disruption.

<p align="center"><kbd><strong>IMAGE</strong></kbd></p>

* **Process Hours:** Select the normal operating hours for the process (e.g., standard business hours, weekend-only availability, or 24-hour operation).
* **Backup Strategy Questions:** Use the available dropdowns to answer questions about backup options and process continuity.

  * **Manual Workaround:** Indicate whether the process can be completed manually during a disruption.

  <div data-gb-custom-block data-tag="hint" data-style="warning" class="hint hint-warning"><p>An additional field may appear based on your selection.</p><ul><li><p><strong>Yes</strong></p><ul><li><strong>If There Is … Enter the Description:</strong> Describe the manual workaround, including the key steps and required resources.</li></ul></li></ul></div>

  * **Remote Work Capability:** Indicate whether the process can be performed remotely.
  * **Remote Work Documentation:** If remote work is supported, indicate whether documentation exists for performing the process remotely.
  * **Impacted Locations:** Identify the locations where the process is performed or upon which it depends.
  * **Process Redundancy:** Indicate whether backup systems or alternate locations are available if the primary location becomes unavailable.
  * **Customer Alternate Process:** Indicate whether customers can use an alternate process if the primary process is unavailable.

  <div data-gb-custom-block data-tag="hint" data-style="warning" class="hint hint-warning"><p>Additional fields may appear based on your selection.</p><ul><li><p><strong>Yes</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Alternate Process:</strong> Select the alternate process.</li></ul></li><li><p><strong>No</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Is the Alternate Process Documented?:</strong> Indicate whether documentation exists for the alternate process.</li><li><strong>Please Name … Alternate Process:</strong> Enter the name of the alternate process.</li><li><strong>Please Describe the Process:</strong> Describe how the alternate process works, including the key steps and required resources.</li></ul></li></ul></div>

### Define RTO & RPO

Specify the **Recovery Time Objective** (**RTO**) and **Recovery Point Objective** (**RPO**) for the process.

{% hint style="info" %}

#### **Understanding RTO & RPO**

**Recovery Time Objective (RTO):**

* The RTO is the maximum amount of downtime the supporting applications or systems can experience before they must be restored.
  * It answers the question: *"How long can we afford to be offline?"*
  * Depending on business requirements, the RTO may range from no downtime to several days.

**Recovery Point Objective (RPO):**

* The RPO is the maximum amount of data loss that can be tolerated following a disruption.
  * It answers the question: *“How much data can we afford to lose?”*&#x20;
  * Acceptable data loss may range from no data loss to several seconds, hours, or days, depending on the process and recovery capabilities.
    {% endhint %}

<p align="center"><kbd><strong>IMAGE</strong></kbd></p>

* **Please Select the RTO for This Process:\*** Select the maximum acceptable downtime for the process.
* **Please Select the RPO for This Process:\*** Select the maximum acceptable data loss for the process.
* **Comment:** Provide any additional information that supports the selected RTO and RPO.

### Assess Financial Impact

Assess the financial impact of a complete disruption to the business process over time.

{% hint style="danger" %}
Do not include lost revenue or income in this assessment.
{% endhint %}

<p align="center"><kbd><strong>IMAGE</strong></kbd></p>

* Use the grid to indicate the financial impact for each time interval (e.g., 2 hours, 24 hours, 72 hours).

<details>

<summary><mark style="color:cyan;"><strong>Financial Levels</strong></mark></summary>

<table><thead><tr><th width="149.60003662109375">Impact Level</th><th>Financial Loss</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Very Low</td><td>$0 to $49,000</td></tr><tr><td>Low</td><td>$50,000 to $99,000</td></tr><tr><td>Medium</td><td>$100,000 to $149,000</td></tr><tr><td>High</td><td>$150,000 to $199,000</td></tr><tr><td>Very High</td><td>$200,000 and above</td></tr></tbody></table>

For example, if the estimated loss after 24 hours is $50,000, select **Low** from the dropdown menu for the 24-hour interval.

</details>

{% hint style="info" %}

#### Updating the Grid

* Click a cell and select the appropriate value from the dropdown.

* To apply changes, click **Save Changes** or click outside the grid.

* To cancel, click **Discard Changes**.
  {% endhint %}

* **Comment:** Provide any additional information about the financial impact.

{% hint style="warning" %}
The score for this section is calculated using predefined criteria.

* For more information, see the [**BIA Scoring Framework**](/interfacing-help-files/business-continuity/managing-business-impact-analyses-apps/creating-and-managing-bias/complete-bia/bia-scoring-framework.md).
  {% endhint %}

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Assess Non-Financial Impact

Assess the non-financial impact of a complete disruption to the business process over time.

<p align="center"><kbd><strong>IMAGE</strong></kbd></p>

* Use the grid to indicate the non-financial impact for each category and time interval.

<details>

<summary><mark style="color:cyan;"><strong>Non-Financial Impact Classes &#x26; Levels</strong></mark></summary>

| Class of Effects                                                  | Description                                                                                                                                  |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://interfacing.gitbook.io/interfacing-help-files/business-continuity/managing-business-impact-analyses-apps/creating-and-managing-bias/complete-bia.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
