# Exploring the Details Panel

Understand the structure and content of a documentation item.

The **Details Panel** consolidates all information related to a selected item.

## Viewing Documentation

Follow the steps below to open, read, and navigate documentation in the panel.

### Reviewing Metadata

Use the header to verify you are viewing the correct object and version.

* **SN & Name:** The system-generated serial number and the item's full name or descriptive title.
* **Version & Status:** The current version and lifecycle state (e.g., **`Draft`**, **`Approved`**, **`Published`**).

{% hint style="warning" %}
Use the **Version** dropdown to switch versions or view version history (permissions required).

* For more information, see [**Versioning**](/interfacing-help-files/end-users/library/exploring-the-details-panel/versioning.md).

### Exploring Sections

Documentation is organized into scrollable sections. Use the **Section Navigator** (markers on the right) to move between them.

* The highlighted marker indicates the section currently in view.
* Hover over a marker to preview the section title.
* Select a marker to open the full list of sections and jump to another area.

Common sections include:

<table data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th><th data-hidden data-card-cover data-type="image">Cover image</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Preview</strong></td><td>View and explore a visual representation of the item to understand its structure or content.</td><td><a href="/interfacing-help-files/end-users/library/exploring-the-details-panel/preview.md">Preview</a></td><td><a href="https://1488562728-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FTx7AmE0d2Q4ja20EYjF5%2Fuploads%2FUoaZ42lcyM8pzhxAMdgL%2FIMS-V16-NAV-Library-Icons-128.png?alt=media&amp;token=0e9818ec-d70f-452f-bc23-18c2a54c1648">IMS-V16-NAV-Library-Icons-128.png</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>SIPOC</strong></td><td>Review the scope, stakeholders, and key inputs and outputs of a process.</td><td><a href="/interfacing-help-files/end-users/library/exploring-the-details-panel/sipoc.md">SIPOC</a></td><td><a href="https://1488562728-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FTx7AmE0d2Q4ja20EYjF5%2Fuploads%2FYhTlM6KVDQ3cGHPgFVVo%2FIMS-V16-NAV-Library-Icons-127.png?alt=media&amp;token=46ce7651-ff8b-4314-9f00-b09259bc03b9">IMS-V16-NAV-Library-Icons-127.png</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Responsibilities</strong></td><td>Review associated organizational units, roles, resources, assets, and their assigned responsibilities (RASCI-VS).</td><td><a href="/interfacing-help-files/end-users/library/exploring-the-details-panel/responsibilities.md">Responsibilities</a></td><td><a href="https://1488562728-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FTx7AmE0d2Q4ja20EYjF5%2Fuploads%2F4KOsLSI0o6hwdSg2gT7l%2FIMS-V16-NAV-Library-Icons-116.png?alt=media&amp;token=a282f9a5-7f35-40d0-9413-d850778c9e59">IMS-V16-NAV-Library-Icons-116.png</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Governance, Risk, &#x26; Compliance</strong></td><td>View how the item is regulated, monitored, and evaluated.</td><td></td><td><a href="https://1488562728-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FTx7AmE0d2Q4ja20EYjF5%2Fuploads%2FgV3dZnvQtVziwYgbv24k%2FIMS-V16-NAV-Library-Icons-140.png?alt=media&amp;token=fd98d53c-99f8-4ef7-9830-7c2a4bfba40b">IMS-V16-NAV-Library-Icons-140.png</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

### Viewing Related Content

Use **overlay panels** to view related items (e.g., activities in a process) without leaving your current context.

{% hint style="info" %}
You can open up to **two overlays at once** to compare or reference content.

* For more information, see [**Using Overlay Panels**](/interfacing-help-files/end-users/using-the-side-panel.md#using-overlay-panels).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://interfacing.gitbook.io/interfacing-help-files/end-users/library/exploring-the-details-panel.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
