# Preview

Visualize items to understand their structure, relationships, and key details.

The **Preview** section provides a visual representation of the documentation. Depending on the item type, this may be a diagram, embedded file, or other format illustrating the object’s structure or content.

## Accessing the Preview

You can open the **Preview** in two ways:

1. **From the Details Panel**

   [Open the item's details](/interfacing-help-files/end-users/library.md#viewing-documentation). The **Preview** appears at the top of the panel.
2. **Using the Preview Icon**

   Select the **View** (<img src="https://1488562728-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FTx7AmE0d2Q4ja20EYjF5%2Fuploads%2FIQpITL3GTGsnbspwk7pj%2FIMS-V16-NAV-Library-Icons-21.png?alt=media&amp;token=6168b003-0eac-4930-8870-d1df27ae5338" alt="" data-size="line">) icon next to an associated item in the **Details Panel**. The **Preview** opens in full-screen mode.

## Exploring the Preview

The availability and behavior of the **Preview** depend on the item type.

#### <i class="fa-highlighter-line">:highlighter-line:</i>  Highlighting the Diagram

Highlighting allows you to visually emphasize specific aspects of the process flow. Select a highlight mode from the **Preview Toolbar** to apply it to the diagram.

<p align="center"><kbd><strong>IMAGE</strong></kbd></p>

Available highlight modes include:

* **Critical Path:** Highlights the critical path through the process.
* **High Risk Path:** Highlights the path identified as high risk based on predefined risk attributes.
* **My Tasks:** Highlights tasks associated with your selected [**RASCI-VS**](#user-content-fn-1)[^1] roles.

{% hint style="danger" %}
This option is available only if you have permission to view role assignments.
{% endhint %}

* **Value Added / Non-Value Added:** Highlights steps based on value classification.
* **Manual / Automated:** Highlights steps based on execution type.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Only **one** highlight mode can be active at a time. Selecting a different mode replaces the current highlight.

To disable highlighting and return to the default view, select **None**.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
When you select an activity in the diagram, its **direct inputs and outputs** are automatically highlighted.&#x20;

* This behavior is selection-based and does not require a highlight mode to be enabled.

Select a listed item to open its details in an overlay panel.
* [**IPLs**](#user-content-fn-2)[^2]**:** Select the **IPL** ( <i class="fa-link">:link:</i> ) icon on a **Start** or **End** shape. Hover over the linked process and choose either **Open on Map** to view it in the main diagram or **Open in Side Panel** to view it in an overlay panel.

{% hint style="info" %}
The overlay stacks on top of the current side panel, preserving your original view.

* Click **Back** or **Close** (**X**) to return.
  {% endhint %}

* **Subprocesses:** Select the **Expand** ( <i class="fa-square-plus">:square-plus:</i> ) icon on a subprocess shape to expand it directly within the diagram.&#x20;

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://interfacing.gitbook.io/interfacing-help-files/end-users/library/exploring-the-details-panel/preview.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
