# Creating & Managing Projects

Create and maintain projects to establish a reliable foundation for ongoing process analysis.

In the **Process Mining** application, projects function as the central workspace for organizing data and generating process insights.

### Match Your Data

Map the required fields to the corresponding columns in your dataset:

* **Case ID**
* **Activity**
* **Start Time**

Each field includes a dropdown menu populated with the column headers from your file.

## Managing Existing Projects

After creation, projects appear on the application home screen. You can manage each project using the **More Options** ( :ellipsis-vertical: ) menu on its card.

{% hint style="danger" %}
Management actions are available only to users with the appropriate permissions.
{% endhint %}

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Editing Projects

Projects can be updated in two ways, depending on the type of change required.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

#### :circle-info: Edit Project Information

To modify descriptive details:

* From the menu, select **Edit Project Info**.
* In the **Edit Project Info** dialog:
 * **Project Name** *(required)*: Enter a new or corrected name.
 * **Project Description** *(optional)*: Add, modify, or remove text.
* Click **Save**.

Changes take effect immediately and are recorded in the audit log with a timestamp.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

#### :table-cells: Edit Project Dataset

To merge new or revised records into a project, you can update the dataset **manually** or **automatically**.

**Manual Upload**

Projects can be updated on-demand by uploading a file directly from your computer.

* From the menu, select **Update Data**.
* Upload a file that matches the original dataset structure (same columns and data types).
* Click **Update**.

The system validates the file before merging:

* If the structure does not match, the upload is rejected and an error message is displayed.
* If validation succeeds, the data is merged into the existing dataset.

**Automatic Upload (Folder or SFTP)**

Projects can also stay up-to-date automatically by fetching files from a designated folder or SFTP server.

* Configure a local folder or SFTP server as a data source for the project.
* Place new or updated CSV files in the configured location.
* The system periodically fetches these files and automatically applies the same validation and merging rules as for manual uploads.

{% hint style="info" %}

#### How Updates Are Applied

Updates are processed incrementally:

* **New Rows** → Added
* **Matching Rows** (same primary key) → Updated
* **Missing Rows** → Ignored (not deleted)
 {% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Updating the dataset may significantly affect all generated analyses and visualizations.
{% endhint %}

***

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Deleting Projects

To permanently remove a project and all associated data:

* From the menu, select **Delete**.
* In the confirmation dialog, click **OK** to proceed or **Cancel** to keep the project.

A notification indicates whether the deletion was successful.

***

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

***

## Next Steps

After creating or updating a project, you can continue with the following:

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://interfacing.gitbook.io/interfacing-help-files/process-analysts/process-analysis-and-simulation/process-mining/creating-and-managing-projects.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
