# Delete an Object

The `DELETE /items/{nodeId}` endpoint allows you to delete objects within IMS. It supports various use cases for synchronizing data from an external system into IMS, including:

* Synchronizing through an integrated script within the external system (note that you may also need the update endpoint)
* Deleting objects via webhooks (for example, through integrations like Jira)

***

## Quick Start

* **Base Endpoint URL**: <https://YOUREPC.interfacing.com/api/v1/items/nodeId>
* **Authentication**: Obtain a valid token (see [Authentication & Token Management](/interfacing-help-files/solutions-developers/api-and-information-repository/rest-apis.md#authentication-and-token-management))
* **Swagger URL**: <https://YOUREPC.interfacing.com/api/v1/swagger/#/Common/deleteItem>

***

## Request Example

Replace `{nodeId}` with the UID of the object you wish to delete.

* The UID can always be found in the item's details panel within IMS.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Important:** Once an object is deleted, all of its child objects will be deleted as well.
{% endhint %}

## What is this feature in IMS?

<mark style="color:red;">Users with at least Delete-level permissions, including those with roles such as Environment Admin or System Admin, can remove objects directly from the IMS web application. When an object is deleted, all of its child objects are also deleted.</mark>

<mark style="color:red;">Authorized users can access the delete function via the Edit button either in the library list or on the details panel of any IMS object. Additionally, mass deletion is supported through the library list view.</mark>

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://interfacing.gitbook.io/interfacing-help-files/solutions-developers/api-and-information-repository/rest-apis/use-cases-and-examples/delete-an-object.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
