#### <i class="fa-toggle-large-off">:toggle-large-off:</i>  Published View (Default)

* Displays the **most recently published** version of each item.
* Intended for general users requiring **stable**, **validated content**.

#### <i class="fa-toggle-large-on">:toggle-large-on:</i>  Latest View (Restricted Access)

* Displays the **most current** version of each item, whether published or in progress.
* Intended for administrators and content editors actively **reviewing** or **updating material**.

{% hint style="danger" %}
During **Phase 1**, only the **Published View** is available.

Follow the steps below to browse and interact with documentation:

{% step %}

### Browsing Documentation

The **Library** module offers two primary ways to browse content.

{% hint style="warning" %}
To ensure search results and lists remain relevant, certain items, called **Artifacts**, are hidden from view.
{% endhint %}

#### <i class="fa-list-tree">:list-tree:</i>  Library Tree

* Use the **Library Tree** to navigate documentation through a structured hierarchy.
  * To expand or collapse an item, select the arrow next to it or select the item itself.
  * When you select an item, its contents appear in the **List View**.

<figure><img src="https://1488562728-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FTx7AmE0d2Q4ja20EYjF5%2Fuploads%2FtQQjo6NirYTenGm5jYdD%2FIMS-V16-NAV-Library-1-1.gif?alt=media&amp;token=4a3c506a-5961-453c-95f1-1c70ba447361" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
You can close, resize, or change the display mode of the **Library Tree**:

* To **close** the panel, select the **X** icon in the upper-right corner.
* To **resize** the panel, hover over its edge and drag.
* To **switch modes** ([**Auto-Collapse**](#user-content-fn-1)[^1] or [**Pinned**](#user-content-fn-2)[^2]), select the ![](https://1488562728-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FTx7AmE0d2Q4ja20EYjF5%2Fuploads%2Fb3yDXfhwmvJjth6RRtrC%2Fmenu_open_16dp_000000_FILL0_wght300_GRAD0_opsz20.svg?alt=media\&token=70de1e66-5b0f-4a9a-b006-f53845df63d6) icon.
  {% endhint %}

#### <i class="fa-bars">:bars:</i>  List View

* Use the **List View** to browse documentation in a sortable, tabular layout.
  * Double-click an item to open it or drill down into its contents.

<figure><img src="https://1488562728-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FTx7AmE0d2Q4ja20EYjF5%2Fuploads%2FO2uvWUtCWl2xdHh6TMm9%2FIMS-V16-NAV-Library-2.png?alt=media&amp;token=9b742bb8-4669-4f5a-b3c1-033379250d0b" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="success" icon="lightbulb" %}
**Tip:** Use the **breadcrumb trail** at the top of the workspace to navigate back through levels.

* Select the **three-dot** ( <i class="fa-ellipsis">:ellipsis:</i> ) icon to reveal any levels hidden from the trail.
  {% endhint %}

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Finding Documentation

Refine your view to quickly locate the information you need.

#### <i class="fa-magnifying-glass">:magnifying-glass:</i>  Search

Use the **Keyword Filter** to find documentation by title, object type, content, or identifiers.

#### <i class="fa-filter-list">:filter-list:</i>  Filters

Use **Quick Filters** or **All Filters** to narrow results by status, category, role, or other attributes.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Viewing Documentation

The **Details Panel** (also called **Details View**) is the primary interface for reading documentation.

<figure><img src="https://1488562728-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FTx7AmE0d2Q4ja20EYjF5%2Fuploads%2FOqAKlKGALKEuP6RS1wgz%2FIMS-V16-Library-Sample.png?alt=media&amp;token=f6078aab-0261-4898-ab74-6ad5c55f1ad5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

To open the **Details Panel**, select **View Details** from the **More Options** ( **⋮** ) menu wherever it appears.

<figure><img src="https://1488562728-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FTx7AmE0d2Q4ja20EYjF5%2Fuploads%2FLRwNaLiUlIvq6isyo95m%2FIMS-V16-Library-View.png?alt=media&amp;token=37af4633-ecdf-4f71-a87a-1c32c443cf4c" alt="" width="352"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can also use the following shortcuts:

* **Library Tree:** Select a child item (one without sub-items).
* **List View:** Double-click a child item.
* **Toolbar:** Click **Details** for the currently selected item.

{% hint style="info" %}
Once open, the panel updates automatically as you select different items.

* It retains your current view (**Preview** or **Details**) whenever possible, switching only if the selected item does not support that mode.
  {% endhint %}

{% hint style="success" %}
For more information, see[ **Exploring the Details Panel**](/interfacing-help-files/end-users/library/exploring-the-details-panel.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://interfacing.gitbook.io/interfacing-help-files/end-users/library.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
